Veterans and Brain Injury
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is considered the signature injury among military service members who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. South Carolina has a huge military presence. Approximately 58,493 Department of Defense personnel as well as approximately 397,649 veterans including 63,882 military retirees reside in the state. That's 9.2% of the entire state population, and the 8th highest percentage of all 50 states.
This is why BIASC has committed to focusing on the intersection of brain injury and veterans. We know this population exists in our state and needs to be addressed regarding brain injury.
The Brain Injury Association of South Carolina is currently conducting a Veteran Community Survey for Veterans who have experienced a brain injury. Any veteran is eligible to take the survey as long as they’ve had a brain injury of some sort.
The purpose of the survey is for our team to be able to identify gaps in service and needs in the community. By learning this information we can better understand where to focus our outreach efforts and learn to better assist our Veterans with brain injury.
Your feedback is very important to us. Please, take the time to complete our Veteran Community Survey.
